Part 4 - Security in a Loxone Smart Home: Preserving privacy
The various aspects of security are all covered by the Loxone Smart Home.
You can feel absolutely safe in your home. It guards itself, keeps an eye on the whole family, keeps intruders at bay, and protects your privacy.
In this fourth installment of the security narrative series, we examine protection, which is more crucial than ever. Additionally, that is:
Privacy protection
Protection against burglary
Keeps intruders out
Protecting the occupants
Watches over the
whole family

Privacy Protection
Your smart home,
your data
Everyone is entitled to their own space and the security of their own information.
Loxone fully respects and safeguards this individual’s right since we adhere to the following stringent guidelines when it comes to consumer data:
Your data and your smart home
Safeguard your information with the Loxone Miniserver
Your data is kept on your Miniserver, where it belongs, by the Loxone Smart Home. Your smart home’s Miniserver, which houses and processes your data, is its key component and brain.
In contrast to other systems (like IFTTT, Siri, and Alexa), your data is not processed or stored in the cloud. Inside your own four walls, sensitive information is kept safe, including the number of people residing there, schedules, camera footage from door intercom systems, the state of the alarm system, etc.
Carries out duties without the use of the Internet
Give it a go!
You don’t need an internet connection to operate your Loxone Smart Home. All you have to do is use the local network to run your Miniserver. The absence of an internet connection will prevent you from using features like online weather information, push notifications, email delivery, and remote access; but, you will still be able to take advantage of all the other benefits, including increased comfort, safety, and energy efficiency.
Use of Miniserver alone for authentication
The Miniserver itself is the only medium through which registration occurs. The login credentials for a Loxone Miniserver are unrelated to a Loxone Web account, which is utilised to make purchases in our online store.
Several smart home solutions require a login on the part of the manufacturer. These solutions, in contrast to Loxone, are run via a cloud. This login could end up serving as the main attack vector. There isn’t a central node in the Loxone system that can be broken into to access every Miniserver. This indicates that Loxone cannot access the Miniservers of its clients.
The security features of the Miniservers and the user-controlled global network security safeguard each Loxone Smart Home system separately. One crucial issue for the smart home is network security. Absolute data security is questionable if this is ignored. Selecting safe access data is crucial because of this!
Choosing safer access data
Taking precautions to make your data harder for outsiders to obtain is the greatest approach to keep it secure. The first step in doing that is selecting a secure username and a secret password.
Use a minimum of twelve characters, including capital and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters, to create a safe password. For instance, “Xc66gsRc%uYu”
However, passwords like “123456” or just “password” are simple to figure out and, unexpectedly, among the most commonly used passwords globally.
Any attempt to increase security is pointless if the password is the weakest link in the system. We take action to protect customers because of this. For instance, it is not feasible to gain remote access using ordinary user data through the Loxone DNS service.

Completely safe & respectful of your privacy: Internet-Based Services
With the help of Loxone internet Services, you can enhance your smart home with extra internet services and data. It is totally up to you whether or not to use these services, and using them is totally voluntary.
Only the most essential information will be sent to our servers while using our online services, if you choose to use them. This includes the device’s serial number so that online services may confirm that the service is also enabled for the corresponding device. or the IP address, allowing you to locate your Miniserver online even if its IP address changes. (Of course, this service is totally anonymous, and you can use other providers’ DNS services if you’d like!) Consequently, no statistics or information on your usage patterns are kept on file.
The cloud-free smart home!
The Loxone Smart Home provides evidence that smart home control is feasible even in the absence of a data cloud and without any operational or functional limitations. A Loxone Smart Home is far more powerful than many IoT gadgets and devices because of this unique method, in which the Miniserver unifies everything in the house at one central location. These other gadgets and devices can’t provide the same capability and dependability.
Continuous enhancements - for your security
We don’t take our accomplishments for granted. We think that in order to keep our solution as safe as possible, it’s critical to keep making constant enhancements and modifications. Because of this, security updates are a crucial component of our routine software upgrades. We advise you to always use the most recent version of the programme and, above all, to make sure you’re using strong, secure passwords in order to provide the strongest security possible.
